Ithaca's new glimmering light: Bill Nye's Rhodes Hall Clock

On August 27 in Ithaca, Cornell's Bill Nye '77 unveiled the new clock atop Rhodes Hall. The clock features an elegant design that combines science, technology, and the history of timekeeping and Cornell's heritage. The clock incorporates a Solar Noon feature or indicator, indicated by circle with rays just below the 12. The clock feature indicating Solar Noon, is fittingly illuminated with sunlight rather than with artificial light. Students in the Schools of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering under the tutelage of Professor Michel Louge have worked on the clock technology and design.
